Your privacy

Our privacy policy is simple:

Read this site with any browser

We have designed this web site so that it can be read in any web browser, and other "internet enabled" devices. The site is best experienced using an up-to-date browser that supports current web standards, such as

If you are using an older browser or other kind of device, all of the content will still be available to you, but you will get a much more "plain vanilla" presentation of the site. You can find out why and how to upgrade to an up-to-date browser at the Web Standards Project.

Screen resolution

OK, so we broke one of our own rules here: we compromised in the interests of satisfying our need as web designers to make a pleasing presentation. If you are using an up-to-date browser as discussed above, and if your monitor's resolution is set to less than 800 x 600 pixels, then you may have difficulty viewing the whole width of our pages. But we figured that

  1. if you're using an up-to-date browser, and
  2. you're interested in web design

then you're likely to be viewing at 800 x 600 or higher. (Lower resolutions are generally only used with 15-inch or smaller monitors. It's usually possible to adjust your screen resolution; consult your operating system's Help files.)

If you're not using an up-to-date browser, then your screen resolution does not matter.

Free fonts for better viewing

This site makes use of Verdana, a sans serif font designed specifically for viewing on the web. If your browser supports current web standards and you have this font installed on your system, it will be used to display text. If not, your browser will substitute another font. Most Windows users will already have Verdana; if not, you can get it free for both Windows and Apple Mac systems from the Microsoft TrueType core fonts for the Web page.

Changing the text size

If you would find it more comfortable viewing the site with larger (or smaller) text, most graphical browsers provide the ability to change text size. In recent versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator, for example, on the "View" menu on the toolbar, you will find a "Text Size" option that allows you to make the text larger or smaller. Older versions of Netscape have "Increase font" and "Decrease font" options on the "View" menu. In Opera, you can change the magnification of the page with the "Zoom" control at the right-hand end of the address box. (Normally it is set to 100%.)

Accessibility

Our aim in designing this web site was to make the content accessible to people with disabilities, who may access the internet with devices other than typical graphical web browsers, or who use assistive technologies such as screen readers. All of the pages on this site are Bobby Approved, and meet at least Conformance Level A of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the World Wide Web Consortium.
